Oct – 2025: Wildlife Week at KBR National Park, A Collaboration Between WWF India, the Forest Department and ShutterSociety.HYD

For months, our cameras had documented the streets, festivals, markets, and people of Hyderabad. This time, they turned towards something quieter. Hidden beneath the green canopy of KBR National Park, Wildlife Week 2025 offered us a chance to celebrate nature itself. In collaboration with WWF India and the Forest Department, ShutterSociety.HYD proudly became part of a morning dedicated to wildlife, conservation, and ethical photography.

Every photograph has the power to tell a story, but some photographs also inspire us to protect what they capture. During Wildlife Week 2025, ShutterSociety.HYD was honoured to collaborate with WWF India, the Forest Department, and KBR National Park for a special wildlife photowalk dedicated not just to photography, but to conservation, awareness, and responsible storytelling through nature.

Wildlife Week is one of the most important annual celebrations dedicated to creating awareness about India’s rich biodiversity and the importance of protecting it for future generations. Being invited to collaborate for such an occasion was a proud milestone for our growing community.

With only two days’ notice, the opportunity arrived unexpectedly, and without hesitation, Mr. Sai Thejeshwar Rao and Mr. Cherry Mokka immediately coordinated with the organizing team and announced the event within our community.

Although I was away from Hyderabad during those days, it was wonderful to see both of them immediately take the initiative and make sure our community didn’t miss this unique opportunity.

Despite being organized on a working day and with very short notice, many of our passionate members still made time to join the Wildlife Week photowalk. Their enthusiasm and commitment once again reminded us that passion always finds its way, no matter how busy life becomes.

On the morning of 8th October 2025, our community gathered at the beautiful Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park, one of Hyderabad’s most important urban forest reserves. The event was conducted under the guidance of Divisional Forest Officers, Forest Department officials, WWF India environmental educators, and wildlife experts, making it a unique learning experience rather than just another photography meetup.

Unlike our regular photowalks, this morning focused on understanding nature before photographing it. Before entering the trails, participants were introduced to the biodiversity of KBR National Park, learning about its native trees, birds, butterflies, insects, reptiles, and the delicate ecosystem that continues to thrive within the heart of Hyderabad.

The experts also explained the importance of ethical wildlife photography, encouraging everyone to observe patiently, respect wildlife, avoid disturbing natural habitats, and always place conservation before the photograph.

As the walk began, cameras quietly replaced conversations. Members slowly explored the forest trails, searching not for dramatic moments but for the small wonders that nature offers every day. Birds hidden among the branches, butterflies resting on leaves, colourful insects, textured tree bark, morning light filtering through the canopy, and countless tiny details became the subjects of the day. It reminded everyone that wildlife photography is built on observation, patience, and respect rather than speed.

Throughout the morning, Forest Department officials and WWF India educators continued interacting with participants, answering questions, identifying different species, and sharing fascinating facts about the park’s ecosystem. Their guidance helped our members understand that every photograph also carries a responsibility, to create awareness and encourage people to value and protect the natural world around them.

Great collaborations don’t happen because people know your name. They happen because people believe in your purpose.

One of the most special aspects of this collaboration was the trust placed in ShutterSociety.HYD. Wildlife photography inside protected environments requires responsibility, discipline, and respect for both nature and park regulations. Being officially invited to participate alongside WWF India and the Forest Department reflected the confidence they had in our community and the values we continue to promote through every meetup.

Although the event was organized at short notice, it became another memorable chapter in our journey. It demonstrated that photography can do much more than create beautiful images. It can educate, inspire, and encourage people to become responsible storytellers and protect the environment that makes those stories possible.

We sincerely thank WWF India, the Forest Department, the KBR National Park management, the Divisional Forest Officers, environmental educators, and every official who made this collaboration possible. Their guidance transformed the morning into a valuable learning experience for our community.

We also thank every ShutterSociety.HYD member who joined the Wildlife Week celebration with curiosity, discipline, and respect for nature. As our community continues to grow, we hope to create many more opportunities that not only improve our photography but also strengthen our responsibility towards the world we photograph.
