Jan – 2026: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Hyderabad) and ShutterSociety.HYD Collaboration, Celebrating the Annual Photography Festival
From the streets of Hyderabad to one of India’s most prestigious institutions, the journey of ShutterSociety.HYD had reached another proud milestone. In January 2026, we had the privilege of collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Hyderabad), taking our passion for photography into academia and creating a platform where creativity, learning, and community came together to inspire the next generation of photographers.
It was a proud reminder that a community built with genuine purpose can find its place anywhere.
For us, university collaborations have always been about much more than conducting photography events. They represent an opportunity to connect passionate students with real-world photography experiences, encourage creative thinking beyond classrooms, and build meaningful relationships between academic institutions and the photography community.
Following our successful collaboration with the University of Hyderabad (HCU) during the World Photography Day celebrations in 2025, another exciting opportunity arrived just a few months later. This time, the journey took us to the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, further strengthening our mission of bringing photography into academia and connecting passionate students with a growing creative community.
Our journey with IIT Hyderabad began in the middle of December 2025, when the student organizing team reached out to ShutterSociety.HYD with an exciting proposal.
As part of ELAN & nVision, IIT Hyderabad’s annual techno cultural festival, they were organizing two major photography competitions, Tales in Frames and Chronicles in Clicks. Every year, ELAN & nVision brings together students from prestigious institutions across India through competitions, technical events, cultural activities, exhibitions, and creative showcases, making it one of the country’s most recognized student festivals.
This time, they wanted ShutterSociety.HYD to become part of that journey.
What made this collaboration even more special was the trust IIT Hyderabad placed in our community.
What made this recognition even more meaningful was the trust IIT Hyderabad placed in our vision. They appreciated the work ShutterSociety.HYD had been doing to build a genuine, non-commercial photography community that inspires photographers, encourages creativity, and gives back to society.
During the event, seeing the ShutterSociety.HYD logo displayed prominently at the center of the official event screen, while several commercial sponsor logos appeared around it, was a truly proud moment for all of us. We had never approached our journey with sponsorships or commercial goals. That place had been earned purely through the work, values, and purpose our community had quietly built over the past year.
What made this collaboration even more special was the trust IIT Hyderabad placed in our community.
For the first time, IIT Hyderabad invited an independent photography community to officially collaborate in their photography events, not only by encouraging participation but also by becoming part of the evaluation process itself. It was a proud moment for all of us and another reminder that communities built with genuine purpose continue to earn meaningful opportunities.

Along with the collaboration, three members from ShutterSociety.HYD were officially invited to serve as judges for both photography competitions. I, Anvesh Patel, Mr. Firdaus Mistri, and Mr. Sai Thejeshwar Rao had the privilege of evaluating the participating entries and presentations alongside renowned photographer Mr. Krishna Tejah, who was also invited as a judge for the event.
Standing inside one of India’s finest institutions as judges, while watching our own community members confidently present their work alongside talented students from across the country, was a moment none of us had imagined when ShutterSociety.HYD first began.
Recognition becomes truly meaningful when it creates opportunities for others.
Once everything was finalized, we officially announced the collaboration across our community platforms and invited all our members to participate.

Rather than treating it as just another competition, we encouraged everyone to see it as a rare opportunity to present their work alongside talented students from IIT Hyderabad and several other institutions across the country.
Selected participants would be invited to the IIT Hyderabad campus to present their photographs and visual stories before the judging panel, making the experience far more meaningful than simply submitting images online.
For many of our members, this became their first opportunity to present photography in an academic environment alongside some of India’s brightest young minds.
One of the competition rules required every submitted photograph to be captured after the announced date. Older portfolio images were not allowed.
Instead of seeing this as a limitation, one of our founding members, Mr. Cherry Mokka, transformed it into a wonderful opportunity for the entire community.
He created a dedicated coordination group and organized multiple small street photography outings over the following days, encouraging members to step outside with their cameras, capture fresh stories, and create new work specifically for the competition.
These informal photowalks not only helped members prepare stronger submissions but also motivated many photographers to explore new ideas instead of relying on photographs they had already taken months earlier.
That simple initiative perfectly reflected what ShutterSociety.HYD has always believed.
Sometimes the best way to prepare for an opportunity is simply to go out and create something new.
Great photographs are rarely found in old folders. They are waiting outside, ready to be created.
Over the next few days, excitement continued growing across the community as members finalized their entries and submitted their work for both competitions.
Soon, selected participants began receiving invitation emails from IIT Hyderabad, officially inviting them to present their stories and photographs on campus.
Watching those invitation messages arrive one after another was an incredibly proud moment. The collaboration had already begun creating opportunities before the event had even started.
The event day finally arrived.
As invited judges, we reached the IIT Hyderabad campus on 10th January 2026, while our selected community members also arrived after receiving their official invitations from the organizing team.
Walking through one of India’s most advanced educational campuses with fellow photographers from our community felt like a proud moment in itself. For many of us, it was our very first visit to IIT Hyderabad, and the excitement was visible on every face.
After a brief introduction by the student coordinators, the first photography competition began.
One by one, participants came forward to present their photographs, explain the stories behind them, and answer questions from the judging panel. Students from IIT Hyderabad, participants from different institutes across India, and members of ShutterSociety.HYD all stood on the same stage, sharing their creativity through completely different perspectives and experiences.
Watching our own community members confidently presenting their work alongside talented IIT students was a moment I will never forget.
When ShutterSociety.HYD first began, our purpose was simple, to create opportunities where passionate photographers could learn, grow, and confidently showcase their work.
Standing inside IIT Hyderabad and witnessing our members presenting their photographs in such an inspiring academic environment felt like one of those moments where words simply became unnecessary.
Sometimes, a single moment quietly reminds you why the journey began.
After the first competition concluded, we had a short break before beginning the second event.
Once again, participants came forward with completely different visual stories, creative concepts, and photographic approaches. Every presentation reflected a unique way of observing the world, making the judging process both exciting and challenging.
The greatest achievement is seeing others grow because of a dream you once believed in.
As judges, the four of us carefully listened to every presentation, discussed different perspectives, noted important observations, and evaluated each participant based on storytelling, creativity, technical execution, originality, and presentation. Although selecting winners is never easy, every participant deserved appreciation for the effort they had invested in creating their work.
Before announcing the results, the student coordinators invited all four judges onto the stage to share a few words with the audience.
It was a wonderful opportunity to share a few thoughts about the day’s competitions, appreciate the creativity and effort shown by every participant, and speak about the importance of continuously learning, exploring new ideas, and enjoying the journey of photography.
We also congratulated all the participants for confidently presenting their work and encouraged them to keep telling meaningful stories through their cameras.
One of the most inspiring parts of the event was witnessing photographs and stories arriving from different corners of India.
Every participant brought a unique perspective shaped by their own surroundings, from the busy streets of Mumbai and the timeless ghats of Varanasi, to the heritage of Rajasthan and the everyday life of Hyderabad. Although every photograph looked different, each presentation reflected the same passion for storytelling, reminding us that photography has a beautiful way of connecting people beyond cities, cultures, and languages.
Photography teaches us to observe first, and only then to capture.
Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived. The results of both competitions were announced.
A total of six winners were declared across the two photography events. Out of those six winning positions, three were secured by members of ShutterSociety.HYD.
Abhishek and Karishma won Second Place in Chronicles in Clicks.
Bijan secured Third Place in Chronicles in Clicks.
Nagesh secured Third Place in Tales in Frames.
Hearing the names of our community members announced on the IIT Hyderabad stage filled all of us with immense pride.
Their achievements reflected not only individual talent but also the collaborative learning culture that had quietly grown within ShutterSociety.HYD over the past year.
Success becomes even more meaningful when it is celebrated together.
After the prize distribution ceremony, we spent some time interacting with the winners, participants, student organizers, and fellow photography enthusiasts.
It was wonderful to see photographers from different age groups and backgrounds exchanging ideas, discussing photographs, and appreciating one another’s work.
The event had successfully created exactly what every good photography platform should create, meaningful conversations beyond the competition itself.
For our community members, it also became an opportunity to connect with talented students from IIT Hyderabad and several other institutions, building friendships through a shared passion for photography.
Before leaving, the student coordinators took us on a guided tour of the magnificent IIT Hyderabad campus, spread across nearly 576 acres, making it one of the largest and most modern IIT campuses in India. Travelling across the campus by car, we explored different academic departments, impressive classrooms designed like modern theatres, the beautiful central library, student hostels, research and innovation centres, spacious sports grounds, and many other parts of the campus.
Every corner reflected thoughtful planning, advanced infrastructure, and an environment built to encourage learning, research, and innovation. Experiencing one of India’s finest educational institutions from the inside was truly inspiring, giving all of us a deeper appreciation for the place where thousands of bright young minds are shaping the future.
The greatest classrooms are the ones that inspire curiosity.
Later, all four judges joined the student coordinators for lunch, where the conversations continued beyond photography. We spoke about future collaborations, creative communities, student participation, and many new ideas that could encourage even more young photographers to learn, explore, and express themselves through photography.
Those informal conversations reminded us that meaningful collaborations are never limited to a single event. They often become the beginning of long lasting relationships.
Throughout the entire journey, one person quietly worked behind the scenes to make everything smoother for our community.
From organizing dedicated photography outings before the competition, coordinating participants, encouraging members to create fresh work, supporting them throughout the submission process, and finally documenting the entire IIT Hyderabad event through photographs and videos, Mr. Cherry Mokka stood beside the community at every step without expecting recognition.
His dedication once again reminded us that strong communities are built not only by visible leadership but also by people who silently take responsibility whenever it is needed.

True leadership is often found in those who quietly help others shine.
This collaboration was far more than an invitation to judge a competition. It was another step towards a dream we have always believed in, bringing photography closer to academia, creating meaningful opportunities for passionate photographers, and building bridges between educational institutions and creative communities.
Great communities are remembered not by how big they become, but by how many lives they inspire along the way.
